Writing a book takes a long time, and that time is split between the work of writing, and that of publishing. I submitted the manuscript of Tudor Princes and Princesses almost a year ago, and since then there have been rounds of editing, proof-reading, fact checking, picture choosing and caption writing to fill my time…but I also have a whole fleet of upcoming projects that have been keeping me busy too, so now it’s time to talk a little about them, and share with my Substack followers what we’ve all got to look forward to.
My current project…
…is ‘Tudor England and Stuart Scotland, 1485-1603’ - a study of the relationship between the English and Scottish crowns, with all the ups and downs, battles and marriages that that entailed. We still need to choose a proper title for it, and once we’ve settled on it (by we, I mean me and my editor) I will of course be sharing it!
This project is massive, and it’s certainly a challenge, but I am enjoying it thoroughly. My recent trip to Scotland opened up some new avenues of thought which I hadn’t previously considered, and I hope that I will be able to do this huge subject true justice. The manuscript is due to be submitted in October 2025 - stay tuned for more updates.
Next up…
Once this current project is complete I will be starting work on Book number 4….a biography of Elizabeth Barton, the so-called ‘Holy Maid of Kent’. The working title is ‘The Nun who Challenged Henry VIII’.
After working on such a broad period study, I am really looking forward to going back to a biography and drilling down into a single story (although we all know it’s never that simple!). The manuscript is due in in the autumn of 2026, and I already have a trip to Kent pencilled in for the summer next year. I’m hoping I’ll be able to tie it in with some talks or visits to do with my first and second books while I’m in the area, so if anyone would like to find out more please do get in touch.
Other projects…
Alongside this, I still have all of my family responsibilities with the summer holidays coming up, AND I have my blog, Substack, social media presence, tours, my part-time job (more details to follow on that….it’s very EXCITING!), and I would also like to make some progress on my fiction projects I have running in the background. I’m hoping to launch something on them in 2026, so watch this space for lots of updates. It’s going to be a busy few months!
Thanks to everyone who has supported me in the launch of Tudor Princes and Princesses, and also in general. I really do appreciate the help I have been given, and I hope I can repay the favour to everyone in due course.
Anyway, back to it! Have a great weekend everyone!
Aimee
